What is Lunar Solar Design?
-
Creativity is the fundamental ingredient of any solution. Luckily we all are born creative, although we may feel blocked when trying to access it. While there are an infinite variety of obstacles and thousands of methods to support transcending them, one of the simplest is based on recent advances in behavioral neuroscience. fMRI results show that there are two very separate and complimentary thought processes known as divergent (Lunar) and convergent (Solar). When we can give time to each kind of thinking we open up a vast array of possibilities and ensure that the best of them will be implemented.
-
Convergent thought processes include judgement, analysis, consideration, logic and pretty much everything we learn in school. Without this creativity remains abstract and in the clouds. Solar thinking is how we decide on a way forward.
-
Divergent thinking is playful, random, absurd and generative. “Yes, and…” because more ideas inevitably lead to better ideas. This is easier said than done, as we often self-censor our flow of ideas, thus limiting the quantity and reducing the amount of potential solutions we can explore (once we switch back to solar thinking).
Through facilitating multiple iterations of lunar and solar thinking we can imagine and create new possibilities.
